Governor Mike Braun announced that businessman and former State Representative Chuck Goodrich will be named Indiana’s next Secretary of Commerce. Goodrich will bring his experience as a leader in business and as a three-term State Representative to lead Indiana’s commerce offices and agencies.

I’m proud to announce today that Chuck Goodrich will be picking up the torch as Secretary of Commerce to continue region-led growth to attract and grow great job opportunities and higher wages in Indiana. Chuck Goodrich is a business leader who has spent his career signing the front side of a paycheck, and he will be a tremendous leader for our mission to make life more affordable for Hoosiers, grow jobs, and raise wages.” — Governor Mike Braun

“I’m grateful to Governor Braun for the opportunity to serve Hoosiers in this role. I’ve spent my career building a company in Indiana, hiring Hoosiers, and investing in the workforce that makes growth possible. Indiana is building, growing, and moving forward. Businesses already here will keep growing, and job creators across the country will see what we already know: a workforce and a business environment like nowhere else. Indiana is open for business.” — Chuck Goodrich

Indiana’s next Secretary of Commerce, Chuck Goodrich, serves as the CEO of Gaylor Electric, one of the largest merit-shop electrical firms in the country. Since first becoming President of Gaylor Electric in 2014, the company has developed more than 4,000 jobs. Chuck Goodrich is a longtime workforce development advocate whose leadership spans the construction industry, higher education, and state workforce policy. He is past Chairman of National Associated Builders and Contractors, serves on Purdues Construction Advisory Council, and is a member of Indianas Region 5 Workforce Development Board.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the City of Madison celebrated the opening of the Clifty Connector Trail with a ribbon cutting, which aligns with Governor Mike Braun’s focus on making Indiana healthy and supporting time outdoors.

“Connecting Madison with Clifty Falls State Park through this trail creates an exciting new way for people to experience the area’s natural beauty and stay active,” said Governor Braun. “Thanks to this partnership with the City of Madison, we’re looking forward to seeing both local residents and visitors enjoying the trail.”

The 1.5-mile asphalt, multi-use trail was constructed by the City of Madison with help from a $2,160,160 grant administered by the DNR.

The Clifty Connector Trail adds 1.5 miles of paved trail connecting Clifty Falls State Park to Madison’s riverwalk along the Ohio River in the heart of the city. In addition, a new trailhead has been added along Vernon Street, providing parking, bike racks, a water fountain, and other trail amenities.

“The Connector Trail is another example of how Madison continues moving forward through strategic investments that improve quality of life and strengthen connections throughout our community. This project has been a priority identified in our Parks Master Plan and creates a safe, accessible link between our historic downtown riverfront and Clifty Falls State Park. We are grateful to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and our regional partners for their investment and support in helping bring this vision to life. This trail will serve residents and visitors for generations while further advancing Madison as a destination for outdoor recreation and community connectivity,” said Madison’s Mayor Bob Courtney.

DNR has led the largest infusion of trails funding in state history, with $180 million in dedicated trail funding administered through DNR that facilitates critical trail connections within and between Hoosier communities. A total of 63 of the 89 projects are complete, with another 16 under construction. With this opening, more than 174 miles of trail have been built since the program’s inception.

The City of Frankfort Board of Public Works and Safety convened today and voted to place Frankfort Police Officer Ethan Cunningham on administrative leave without pay, effective immediately.
The Board’s decision follows a formal recommendation submitted by Frankfort Police Chief Scott Shoemaker. The unpaid administrative leave will remain in effect pending the outcome and results of Officer Cunningham’s upcoming criminal trial. Indiana Code provides that an officer may be placed on unpaid administrative leave, but any alternative disciplinary actions must be stayed until the conclusion of the criminal case.
In a separate but related matter during the meeting, Chief Shoemaker requested and received approval from the Board to begin exploring options to rehome K9 Taz. The City of Frankfort has been boarding Taz at the city’s expense since the initial incident occurred.
“Given the nature of the situation and the pending legal proceedings, this administrative action is necessary and appropriate while the judicial process takes its course,” stated Mayor Judy Sheets.  Additionally, our priority with K9 Taz is finding the best possible long-term solution for his care and well-being.”
Because this remains an active legal and personnel matter, the City of Frankfort cannot comment regarding the specifics any internal investigation or the pending criminal case at this time.

The town of Flora is preparing once again to host one of its most anticipated summer traditions as the 48th Annual Flora Lions Hog Jog returns on June 20, 2026, bringing together runners, walkers, families, and community supporters for a full morning of activity and celebration.

Hosted by the Flora Lions Club, the annual event continues its long-standing tradition of combining fitness, family fun, and community giving. Participants of all ages are invited to take part in a variety of events, including a 10K run, 2-mile run, 2-mile walk, and a 500-meter Runt Jog designed for children ages 2 to 7.

The day begins with a community breakfast served from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Scout Cabin in Flora Park. The breakfast is part of the event’s charitable mission, with proceeds supporting a July Guatemalan mission trip.

One of the most popular features of the Hog Jog returns this year as free pork burgers will be provided to all participants in the Hog Jog, courtesy of Indiana Packers Corporation. Additional refreshments include free watermelon provided by Flora SUPERVALU, as well as free ice cream for all Runt Jog participants, courtesy of the Flora Lions Club.

New additions are also expanding the event’s footprint in 2026. A car show will be featured for the first time, along with a wider selection of local food vendors, creating an all-day community atmosphere for participants and spectators alike.

Coverage of the event will also include live broadcast support from Cindy Loveless of WILO 96.9 FM / 1570 AM and Boone 102.7 FM, who will be on-site airing live from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The broadcast is sponsored by Hufty Alignment and Tier One Meat, with on-air giveaways planned during the morning coverage.

For nearly five decades, the Flora Lions Hog Jog has grown into more than a race. It has become a community tradition that highlights local pride, volunteerism, and support for charitable causes while bringing residents together for a shared celebration of health and community spirit.

A Flood Watch has been issued for all of central Indiana beginning this afternoon as forecasters warn of excessive rainfall that could lead to flooding in rivers, creeks, streams, and low-lying areas.

According to the National Weather Service, the watch is in effect from 5 p.m. this afternoon through late tonight and continues until 4 a.m. Thursday, with conditions expected to create the potential for rapid runoff and localized flooding.

Rainfall totals are expected to range from 1 to 2 inches, with isolated areas potentially receiving more than 4 inches of rain in stronger storm bands.

Counties included in the Flood Watch include Carroll, Warren, Tippecanoe, Clinton, Howard, Fountain, Montgomery, Boone, Tipton, and Hamilton counties, along with additional counties across central Indiana.

Officials warn that excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other flood-prone and low-lying locations. Residents in vulnerable areas are urged to remain alert and prepared to take action if flooding develops.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts and be ready for possible Flood Warnings later in the day. Those living near waterways or in historically flood-prone areas should ensure they have a plan in place and avoid driving through flooded roadways.

The National Weather Service reminds the public that even a small amount of moving water can become dangerous, and encourages caution throughout the duration of the weather event.

The Frankfort Parks & Recreation Department announced that the city’s splash pad is once again open to the public.

The popular summer attraction reopened this week, giving families a place to cool off and enjoy outdoor recreation during warmer temperatures.

Along with the reopening, Parks officials are reminding visitors that proper hygiene plays an important role in keeping shared water facilities safe and enjoyable for everyone. Families are encouraged to ensure that children—especially young swimmers—wear appropriate swim diapers or take bathroom breaks before entering the water.

“Every little bit helps keep our community play spaces safe for everyone,” the department said in a public message.

Officials also noted that they are currently investigating an issue with the splash pad’s dumping bucket feature, which is not functioning as expected. No timeline has been announced for repairs.

Despite the maintenance concern, the splash pad remains open for public use, and city staff are thanking residents for their patience and understanding as they work to address the issue.

The annual festival will be held July 31 through Aug. 1, 2026, and will commemorate the 250th birthday of the United States, marking a historic milestone in the nation’s history.

The theme reflects plans to honor America’s semiquincentennial, the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The celebration is expected to feature a variety of family-friendly activities, entertainment, community traditions, and patriotic displays reflecting the significance of the occasion.

Ole Hickory Days has long been a summer tradition in Colfax, bringing together residents, alumni, and visitors for a weekend of festivities and community pride. The 2026 event is expected to place a special emphasis on American history and patriotism while continuing the festival’s longstanding traditions.

In a surprise announcement, this year’s parade Grand Marshal was also revealed. The Clinton County Indiana Special Olympics athletes will lead the Ole Hickory Days parade on August 1 at 3 p.m.

While a full schedule of events has not yet been released, additional details regarding entertainment, activities, and special attractions will be announced in the coming months.

More information about Ole Hickory Days 2026 will be shared as planning continues for the two-day celebration in Colfax.
