Big Second Half Carries Rossville Past Pioneer 63-50

Dirk Shaw scored 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds to help lead Rossville to a 63-50 boys’ basketball non-conference road victory Saturday night over Pioneer.

The victory improved the Hornets to 13-4 on the season going into Thursday night’s showdown at home against Clinton Prairie.

Trailing 33-26 at halftime, Rossville outscored Pioneer 37-17 in the second half for the victory.

Jesse Cornell scored 14 points for Rossville and Luke Meek added 11. Reid Douglas had a team-high five assists while Damon Shaw scored six points and added five rebounds for the Hornets.

JV State Wrestling

Frankfort had five individuals place in the top two at the JV State Finals.

The Hots Dogs did have one state champion in Alex Peralta. The four who took second were Abram Lopez-Angeles, Miguel Gabriel, Nelson Honore and Tyler Gooden at 220.

“Our JV wrestlers do not get many opportunities to wrestle but when they do they take advantage of the opportunity,” said head coach Richard Sallee. “This group can take a lot of pride in both their JV success and the success of the varsity.”

FHS Girls’ JV Finish With Victory

Carina Alanis scored nine points to lead the Frankfort junior varsity girls’ basketball team to a 36-25 victory over Crawfordsville in their final game of the season. Ariana Regalado had eight points, while Madyson Cook scored seven.

Prairie Downs Central in Girls’ Hoops

Clinton Prairie limited Clinton Central to 10 points in the second half en route to a 50-39 girls’ basketball victory Friday night in Jefferson.

Trailing 29-27 at halftime, Prairie outscored Central 13-5 in the third quarter for a 40-34 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Tynlie Neal led four players in double figures with 13 points. Rebekah Lloyd was next with 12 followed by Katie Blacker with 11 and Emma McKinney 10.

Neal also had five rebounds and four assists. Hannah Wilson had a team-high six rebounds, four assists, two steals and two points. Lloyd also had five rebounds.

In the JV contest, Kaitlyn Beck had 18 points and six rebounds as Prairie defeated Central 49-22. Prairie limited Central to just 12 points over the final three quarters.

Claire Ecenbarger had eight points and Rylee Ward added seven for Prairie. Haley Padgett had a team-high seven rebounds.

On Thursday night, Prairie fell to Tipton 66-63 on the road despite 28 points and nine rebounds from Sydney Swan. Neal also reached double figures with 17 points.

Prairie won the JV contest 37-19 behind 16 points, eight rebounds, six assists and six steals from Ecenbarger. Beck added nine points for the Gophers.
