Board of Works Approve New Police Station Feasibility Study

The Board of Works Wednesday approved a request for proposals on the renovation of the Frankfort Police Department.

“Our police officers need a station that they can engage in 21st century crime fighting,” said Frankfort Mayor Chris McBarnes. “We need not delay on moving forward with this initiative. Obviously,  we were all a little disappointed when the number came back so high through the first process. When you think about that kind of money, you want to make sure you’re doing it the right way.”

The initial price tag on the police station renovation was $7.2 million.

Requests for proposals will be taken until 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, for the site evaluation, design and construction of a new police station in Frankfort. Written sealed proposals must be submitted to Frankfort Police Chief Troy Bacon, Frankfort Police Department, 201 W. Washington St., Frankfort, Indiana, 46041. Faxed or emailed submissions will not be accepted.

“We’re going to get a second opinion in regards to a feasibility study of looking at different spaces in the community and decide where our police station needs to be over the next 25 years,” said McBarnes.

Proposals will be opened by the Board of Works at its meeting in the Council Chambers at Old Stoney at 2 p.m. on March 14 and most likely be taken under consideration at that time. There is a possibility a decision will be made at the Board of Works meeting on March 28.
