Board of Works Approves Architect for New Police Station

The Board of Works approved the recommendation of Frankfort Police Chief Troy Bacon to award the Phase I bid for the new police station request for proposal (RFP) Wednesday afternoon.

“We felt that KJG and their partner Zimmerman, who is a regional leader in building police stations, is exactly what we need here in Frankfort,” said Bacon.

The board voted 2-0 to approve the recommendation.

KJG of West Lafayette was the lead architect on the Frankfort High School renovation project. It is owned and operated by Kelly John Good, a Frankfort High School graduate. Zimmerman Architects is from Milwaukee, Wis.

Bacon was asked what will happen next.

“They will analyze the existing building because we feel it is important to come up with an idea of how we can market or utilize the existing police building,” said Bacon. “It’s a historic building and we don’t want to lose it.”

Bacon talked about what will happen after that.

“They will do interviews with the stakeholders, which are the officers and the space programming,” said Bacon. “Once the programming is done, there will be a cost estimate produced. That will give us a ballpark idea of how much it’s going to cost and where we’re going to place the new police station.”

Bacon added he hopes that process is completed within a couple of months.
