Clinton Central Swimmers Capture Conference Championships

The Clinton Central boys’ and girls’ swimmers keep racking up Hoosier Heartland Conference championships. On Saturday, the boys won their fifth straight conference crown and the girls captured their second straight. There wasn’t a conference meet in 2015.

The boys had four conference records. The 200 medley relay team of Colton Payne, Owen Smith, Erik McCarty, and Blake Mosbaugh swam 1:44.91 to eclipse the old record 149.32 set in 2010. The boys 400 freestyle relay team of Mosbaugh, Payne, Wreese Sheets and McCarty also set a new mark of 3:35.39, breaking the old mark of 3:37.97 in 2010

McCarty broke the 200 IM record with a time of 2:05.59. The old record was 2:07.34 set back in 2006. McCarty also broke the 100 butterfly mark of 55.27 set in 2011 with a time of 53.17. He also broke the school record in the 100 butterfly.

John Dunn won both the 200 and 500 freestyle events and was not seeded number one. Smith captured the 100 breaststroke and was not the top seed and Payne broke a minute for the first time in 100 backstroke. Conner Tarkington did 11 dives for the first time and finished third. Mosbaugh won his best times in 50 and 100 events.

On the girls’ side, Kailie Burnette and Grace Atkisson had great times in the 50 and finished one-two. Burnette and Atkisson were also part of the winning 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays with Isabelle Hendrickson and Mollie McDaniel. Hendrickson won the 200 IM and 100 breastroke, Burnette won the 50 freestyle and Addison Bogard dropped three seconds to place third when she was seeded fourth.
