Martin Hale is finally get his chance at being an administrator after being named as the new assistant principal at Frankfort High School in a special meeting Thursday night.

“It’s been a long time coming,” said Hale. “I spent six years in the technology department working with teachers and now I get the opportunity to lead them. I’m excited about it.”

Hale taught sixth grade science at Frankfort Middle School for several years before becoming an integration specialist in the technology department at the high school six years ago.

“I started my master’s when I taught sixth grade science,” said Hale. “I knew it was something I wanted to do and then the technology job presented itself. The longer I was in it the more I thought I want to move up the ladder in technology. Then, the assistant principal job opened up and I thought I’m going to throw my name in the hat. It’s always been in the back of my mind.”

Hale takes the position formally held by current Frankfort High School principal Cindy Long, who was named to that position in early August after principal Steve Edwards left for a similar position at Western High School.

Community Schools of Frankfort Superintendent Don DeWeese said Hale beat out 35 other applicants for the position.

“Martin Hale has worked his entire career here with us,” said DeWeese. “He’s spent 13 or 14 years as a science teacher at our middle school. The last six years, he has been a technology integration specialist working with teachers district wide. A few years ago, he went back and earned his administrative certificate. We just feel he’s ready.”

Hale’s first day in the position will be Tuesday when students and staff return from the Labor Day weekend.
