Healthy Communities Announces Power Through Choices Program

Healthy Communities of Clinton County has announced a new program that is beginning through a grant that focuses on distributing specific information and skills to local youth in an attempt to guide healthy decisions surrounding difficult topics.

The Power Through Choices program will begin with the aid of a grant with Health Care Education and Training, and it will take a curriculum-based approach to providing youth in systems of care with specific information and skills to help them avoid risk-taking sexual behavior and reduce the incidence of adolescent pregnancy, HIV and other STIs.

According to the program’s statistics, it saw that those participating in the program had more knowledge of HIV, STIs and birth control, had lower rates of sexual activity, were less likely to report sexual encounters that did not involve birth control and were less likely to be involved in a pregnancy.
