Positive Cases Results in Clinton County Causing Concern

Concern is mounting in Clinton County over the increase in the number of positive coronavirus cases over the weekend.

“Fortunately, the state is worse off than we are,” said Clinton County Health Department Director Rodney Wann. “We are certainly trying to avoid that. Obviously, as all of us know, we would rather not see that again and the key is going to be a large percentage of our county residents understand wearing the mask is going to be key to not moving backwards right now.”

Wann said Clinton County has had 20 new cases over the past three days.

Clinton County Commissioners President Josh Uitts echoed Wann’s concern.

“Our positive count went up by 17 cases in two days which is a pretty huge jump for Clinton County and our positive rate of test results is at 6 percent,” said Uitts. “That was concerning to them (local health officials) and to us as Commissioners.”

Uitts added we need to reiterate to everyone the important of social distancing and the importance of wearing face masks.

“We can’t stress that enough,” said Uitts. “We don’t want to go backwards. But, if we continue to see these numbers increase, I don’t see where we’re going to have any choice. In order for this to work, the doctor have said there has to be 85 to 90 percent compliance with masks. That’s a hard metric to achieve.”

According to the state health department numbers, Clinton County has had three deaths, 357 positive cases and 5,088 tested as of Monday.
