Prairie Grass Observatory Open House on Saturday August 19

Camp Cullom’s Prairie Grass Observatory welcomes the public to another FREE Starry Night Open House this weekend.  The sun sets about 8:20 Saturday Night.  Observing can start at about 9 pm.

The Observatory will have several observing stations, space movies and telescopes operating including the large 28 inch computerized Dobsonian mount scope and the computerized 16″ Schmitt-Cassegrain scope.  Prairie Grass Observatory will also have large counter-balanced 100 millimeter lens binoculars capable of seeing thousands of stars in the distant arms of the Milky Way Galaxy.

Camp Cullom receives technical support from the Wabash Valley Astronomical Society and trustees of the Observatory will also be on hand to guide you among the stars. You will see:

  • star clusters
  • galaxies
  • Saturn
  • Perseid meteor showers

The Galileo Gallery will have outdoor space movies projected on a screen under the stars.  This unique movie gallery is open under the stars and has back rests inclined to make gazing at the stars a pleasure.  You will also see a green laser constellation talk or two during the evening.

Camp Cullom is located between Frankfort and Mulberry at 6815 W. County Road 200 North, Frankfort, Indiana.  Camp Cullom is a United Way for Clinton County agency and a 501 c-3 Corporation owned by the Children of Clinton County.  All telescopes are owned by the Children of Clinton County. The 90 acre Camp also has an excellent Disc Golf Course available to use at no charge.
