Site Discussion for Satellite EMS Building Still Going On

The Clinton County Commissioners were going to announce the site of their satellite EMS facility at their Monday meeting. However, that didn’t happen and it is unknown as to when that announcement may be forthcoming.

“That was my mistake,” said Commissioners President Josh Uitts. “We’re going to sit down and talk between the Commissioners and our EMS Director Greg Miller and try to come up with a game plan.”

Originally, the second EMS building was to built in the Maddox Corner area because of its distance between Frankfort, Mulberry and Rossville. But, the Mulberry Town Council and the Madison Township Board of Trustees didn’t want the ambulance moved from its current facility at the Madison Township Fire Department and said they would renovate that facility to keep the ambulance there.

Mulberry Town Council President Dave Jones spoke to the board at Monday’s meeting and reiterated the fact they want to keep the ambulance at its current location.

The Commissioners did approve the financing for both the new EMS building at the Clinton County Fairgrounds and the satellite office by signing an agreement with Republic First National. The contract is for 20 years at a cost of $1.65 million.

“We signed the contract today with Republic First National for the financing for our EMS headquarters facility which should begin the beginning of next week,” said Uitts. “We should see some utility poles being moved out there yet this week and see some site work next week.”

Uitts added the contract does cover the second building.

“That allows us enough to construct the EMS headquarters building and it will allow us to have enough left over to contract the satellite facility when we decide where that will be,” said Uitts.

The Commissioners also elected to table discussion about the 2019 holiday schedule. Commissioner Scott Shoemaker said he would like to see the Commissioners set a two-year schedule which would include 2020.
