Traffic Enforcement at Residential Complexes Now Allowed

The Frankfort City Council has passed an ordinance permitting the enforcement of moving traffic violations at residential complexes. This ordinance allows property owners to request and receive assistance from the police department to enforce stop sign violations and speed violations.

Enforcement contracts with local property owners will comply with all Indiana laws. The owner of any residential complex who enters into an enforcement contract will be required to install signs notifying residents and visitors of the ordinance.

The City of Frankfort will not charge the property owner a fee for enforcing the ordinance. Enforcement of residential complex traffic will not begin until the enforcement contract has been signed by the Chief of Police and the owner of the residential complex and the complex has complied with the signage requirements.

According to Mayor Chris McBarnes, “This ordinance will allow us to collaborate with residential complexes to address moving traffic violations that we were unable to help with in the past. Credit goes to the city council for taking up this issue and approving an ordinance that will help slow speeding and increase public safety in complexes”.

Owners of residential complexes that would like to learn more about entering into an enforcement contract with the Frankfort Police Department should contact Chief Troy Bacon at (765) 654-4245.
