The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office hosted a Media Day Thursday to accept our 34 Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) that were funded through ‘Project AED.’ This was a project Clinton County Sheriff Rich Kelly came into office focused on achieving. Sheriff Kelly wanted every vehicle to have an AED, as well as several placed around the Jail and other areas in the facility. Matron Ashley Kelly, along with Administrative Assistants Morgan Hutsell and Melody Knox, have been working hard on fundraising efforts to gain community involvement and support.

Troy Pflugner, Regional Sales Manager with Zoll Medical, was on site to give a presentation of how the AEDs function, as well as provide information on the importance of this medical equipment in the hands of Law Enforcement.

Here at the 34 AEDs.

This is a big deal for our officers,” said Pflugner. “More lives are saved by the hands of law enforcement than any other application because they can get their first.”

Pflugner said each device can issue 420 shocks with a battery that lasts four years. He added AEDs are in 60 of the 92 Sheriff offices throughout the state.

“We can’t begin to express how grateful we are to have such amazing community support,” said Kelly. “These medical devices will save lives in our county, there is no doubt. AEDs should be essential equipment in every agency across our country. Thank you to all of our supporters who contributed to our program! We are excited to get everyone trained and will have these issued out very soon.”

Kelly added the goal is to have the AEDs in every vehicle for every trooper.

“We’ll have  them in our transport vehicles, patrol vehicles and they’ll be out there 24/7.” said Kelly. “We have enough to put extra AEDs in the facility, including in the correctional side as well as the administration side.”
