The Carroll County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) announced that it has received $575,000 in funding from Indiana Department Environmental Management’s 319 program and local agencies to protect and improve water quality in the Deer Creek-Sugar Creek watershed which spans across parts of five counties (Cass, Carroll, Howard, Miami, and Tippecanoe).
The project will support the implementation of soil health and water quality project focused on the Little Deer Creek and Sugar Creek Drainages. The grant also supports the development of education and outreach programming including workshops, field days, and volunteer water quality monitoring. The project will run for three years.
The grant is managed by IDEM and will look to improve conditions within the three subwatersheds that comprise the Deer Creek-Sugar Creek watershed. The project is currently in its initial stages of developing cost-share program guidance and education and outreach schedules.
