The Carroll Cougars baseball team picked up their first win of the season last week against North Miami.
After starting the season 0-3, the Cougars came from behind to walk-off the North Miami Warriors and win 11-10.
“The teams we’ve had the last couple of years probably would’ve folded, and we would have gone home with a loss,” Carroll baseball coach Seth Eldridge said. “But they turned it on, especially in the last inning.”
The Cougars scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh, winning on a bases-loaded walk by Travis Tinsman.
Tinsman finished the game with three hits, two going for extra bases, and three RBIs.
Rowan Bell, Landon Hammond and Anthony Manchester all had multi-hit performances in the win.
“This is year four for me as the varsity head coach and my ninth year with the program,” Eldridge said. “And I think top-to-bottom this is probably one of the better lineups I’ve ever had. If you come and watch one of our games, I think it would be pretty evident.”
After a tough loss to Western, the Cougars are 1-4 entering conference play with a rivalry matchup against
As the Cougars hit their conference schedule and prepare for the State Tournament, Eldridge said pitching will be key.
“I’m excited to see what happens and where our pitchers take us,” Eldridge said. “I want to give a big shoutout to Cale Peters; he’s one of the better pitchers I’ve coached. I’m really excited for him. He’s healthy and working his tail off doing everything we’re asking of him. We have a couple of other guys, Titus Kilty’s going to go play college baseball as a pitcher, and we’ve got a couple of other sophomores and juniors that I think can be college pitchers.
Carroll takes on rival Delphi tomorrow night at 5:30. Watch the Cougars on Hoosierland TV on May 7th against Rossville.
