During a Tuesday morning presentation, the SIA Foundation presented a check in the amount of $6,195 to the Clinton County Fair Council. The fair council was one of 13 not-for-profit organizations to receive support from the SIA Foundation. Grants ranged from $3,000 to $10,000.  In all, $84,000 was presented. Foundation President Tom Easterday said the SIA competitive grant program received nearly 200 applications this past spring.

Accepting the grant for the Clinton County Fair Council was council member Skip Davis.  Davis had written the original grant application.  Accompanying Davis were council members Hillary Doyle, Lorida Pearson and Kyle Russell.  Accompanying them were Marvel Albitz and her husband Don.  In his remarks Davis emphasized “Marvel’s long-time support of the kitchen in the 4-H Community Building at the fairgrounds”. The grant money will help pay for a new spark-lit gas range in the 4-H Community Building.

The Fair Council wants to decide what to do with the present pilot-light range, with its 10 top burners and 2 ovens.  Davis says it works well and wants to be used.  He hopes the council can find a not-for-profit organization that would benefit from having it.

As the SIA Foundation grants were being made, other fair council members were busy working at the fairgrounds. In fact, they had help.  The Clinton County Sheriff’s Department permitted eight inmates to spend the day laying sod around the 4-H Community Building.
