Gina and Travis Sheets Help Burundi Africa Start Agriculture Program

Gina and Travis Sheets know what it takes to increase productivity of African soils. Burundi is no exception to the need to increase Agriculture production.   Burundi has been rated in some studies as the second poorest country in the world just ahead of Central African Republic which is dead last at #228.

Gina and Travis Sheets explain progress addressing Agricultural opportunity in Burundi, Africa. Frankfort Rotary listened to the progress report Thursday Noon at Arborwood.

Africa is a huge continent, able to contain US, China, India, Western Europe and Argentina with room to spare.
Burundi is located southwest of Lake Victoria in East Central Africa.
Travis and Gina Sheets have had the opportunity to help 11 locations in Africa increase crop production by applying sound practical agricultural methods.

Gina and Travis have had direct input to enhance Agriculture in 11 African countries. The latest venture is in Burundi, a country of 11.2 Million people in the size of Maryland. (One third the size of Indiana with twice the population of Indiana).

Frankfort Rotarians Thursday listened as Gina and Travis Sheets shared how they were invited to investigate the possibility of starting a new College Of Agriculture at Free Methodist Hope Africa University. This Christian University in Burundi is already known for advanced studies in Law, Pharmacy, Medicine and other important fields but wanted to expand advanced offerings in Agriculture.

Gina and Travis responded to the request by trying to help build a network in Burundi of Government Leaders, Educators, Ag Processors, Farmers and Diplomates.  The goal was to develop the base for a Professional and Two year Ag Curriculum for Hope Africa University.

Gina and Travis were impressed by some of the methods and practices already in place in some isolated parts of Burundi. The landscape there will almost always require terrace farming, but there are excellent potential programs already on line for Mango production, tilapia, catfish, sheep, goats, bananas and other crops.

Gina and Travis would like to engage the Sagamore Think Tank in Indianapolis to enhance impact and influence in the region by creating a sustainable vocational Ag program in the area.

The world will watch as quality of life may improve in Burundi by “Farming God’s Way” at Hope Africa University. With the help of many, Gina and Travis can help impact the entire region.
