Neufelder Named West Central IU Health President

Daniel Neufelder, FACHE, has been selected as president of the West Central Region which includes Indiana University Health Arnett, Frankfort and White Memorial and the IU Health Arnett Physician Group. Neufelder will assume his role on May 29.

This experience, along with his expertise managing growth and core operational excellence, makes him an excellent choice as the region’s leader.”

Neufelder began his extensive career in the industry as a healthcare management consultant and auditor with Ernst & Young. For the last 28 years, he has either served as a chief executive officer or senior vice president for nationally recognized integrated systems, including Ministry Health Care, Memorial Health System in South Bend, Community Health Network and St. Vincent Health System in Indianapolis.

Neufelder is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, a Board Leadership Fellow of the National Association of Corporate Directors, a certified public accountant and a certified executive coach. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern Indiana and a master’s degree from the University of Indianapolis.

Donald Clayton, MD, will retire from his administrative duties effective May 28 and will return to part time clinical duties as he eases into retirement.

“I have had the pleasure to work directly with Dr. Clayton during my time at IU Health Arnett and have appreciated his visionary leadership and admired his influence in the community,” said Gatmaitan. “We are grateful to Dr. Clayton for his visionary leadership and lasting impact on the community.”

Clayton joined the Arnett Clinic as an allergist in 1980 following his postgraduate training in internal medicine and allergy and immunology at the University of Wisconsin. He was involved in leadership as a medical director from 1990-2001 and served on the Arnett Clinic Board of Directors during a successful period of owning and operating an HMO. He was instrumental in leading the clinic to integrate with IU Health. As chief medical director for IU Health Arnett, the physician group has successfully focused on increasing professionalism, the adoption of LEAN and enhanced clinical practice through the adoption of guidelines such as Choosing Wisely. He was named to his current position in 2016.
