Maxey Takes The Reins Of Grantmaking At The Community Foundation Of Boone County

The Community Foundation of Boone County announced the promotion of Ali Maxey from the Director of Education to the Director of Education and Grantmaking to further the vision and mission of the organization.

Since the organization was founded in 1991, it has grown its net assets to nearly $31 million and has awarded more than 6,600 grants to over 1,900 recipients, which has totaled more than $29 million that has benefited the Boone County community. With the steady increase of grants, the organization selected Maxey to continue the growth and further the mission, vision and purpose of the organization.

The organization has received donations from 9,200 unique donors and has been receiving donations from 55 donors for over 20 years. The organization will continue to push for improvement over the next few years with the help of Maxey’s expertise with a vision for 2024 to continue building relationships in Boone County.

“We do not take these numbers lightly,” organization leaders wrote. “As we look to 2024 and beyond, we will be focused on relationships and connectivity and being a convenor and leader throughout the county. As we begin this work to further develop our initiatives, we recognize the need to elevate and empower our staff, who all have a genuine passion for Community Foundation of Boone County’s mission, vision and purpose.”

In her new role, Maxey will be responsible for furthering all areas of education within the foundation as well as the competitive grant programs for nonprofit organizations that serve the Boone County community, including the more than $250,000 in scholarships that are awarded every year. Maxey will be tasked with managing the relationships with scholarship fund advisors, school corporations and education foundations while also working closely with the Grants Committee to ensure that the grant cycles meet the needs of the community. The organization commented that Maxey will be responsbile for looking toward the future to anticipate the means to break the cycles of need and determine where the grants would make the most impact.

“Over the past six years in her previous role as Director of Scholarships/Education, two of Maxey’s greatest accomplishments are successfully building a strong base of relationships and partnerships with our school corporations and increasing awareness of Community Foundation of Boone County’s scholarship awards, including those supporting career and technical educational opportunities,” organization leaders wrote. “As a result, Community Foundation of Boone County continues to receive an increased number of applicants for our 60 scholarship funds and the approximate $350,000 we award in competitive grant dollars every year to Boone County-serving nonprofits.”

During her time with the organization, Maxey has been applauded for her work growing and cooridinating the Boone County Nonprofit Network and Connect Boone County initiatives. Community Foundation of Boone County CEO Julie Reagan expressed that she believes Maxey will thrive in her new role.
