On Sunday, September 14, 2025, the final resting place of Revolutionary War soldier Frederick Shaffer was formally dedicated in a Patriot Grave Marking Ceremony at Grays Cemetery, also known as Old Tennessee Cemetery, in Middlefork, Indiana.
The ceremony, held at 2:00 PM, was open to the public and conducted by the Captain Harmon Aughe Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR). Attendees gathered to honor Shaffer’s service during the American Revolution and to recognize the legacy of the nation’s early patriots.
The event featured participation from both the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), marking the occasion with patriotic tributes and a formal dedication. Families, local residents, and history enthusiasts attended to pay their respects and to reflect on the sacrifices made by those who fought for American independence.
“This ceremony serves as a reminder of the courage and dedication of the men and women who shaped our nation’s history,” said a representative from the Captain Harmon Aughe Chapter, NSDAR. “It’s an honor to commemorate Frederick Shaffer’s life and service, ensuring that his contributions are remembered by the community.”
The public was invited to attend, underscoring the DAR’s ongoing commitment to historical preservation and education, as part of their America 250 celebration commemorating the nation’s founding.
Grays Cemetery, located at 4720 East State Road 26 in Frankfort, now features this newly dedicated marker, providing a place for families and visitors to honor Frederick Shaffer and other local patriots who served in the Revolutionary War.
