Kokomo Fatal Fire Death Investigation Results In ID Of 69-Year-Old Decedent

The Howard County Coroner’s Office released further information regarding the fatal fire investigation that was conducted in Kokomo, stating that a 69-year-old female was positively identified as the decedent.

On Saturday, Jan. 18, just after 2:30 a.m., the Howard County Coroner was dispatched to 1131 N. Armstrong St. in Kokomo in reference to a decedent that was located in the scene of a residential fire, authorities report. The Kokomo Fire Department was dispatched to the scene around 11 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 17 in reference for the structure fire, authorities report.

The decedent has been positively identified as the resident and homeowner Charlene Ormsby, 69, who was identified through DNA analysis by the Indiana State Police Forensic Lab in Indianapolis.

An autopsy was performed on Tuesday, Jan. 21 by a forensic pathologist at the Howard County Coroner’s Office, and the preliminary autopsy findings are consistent with thermal and inhalation injuries from the fire. The final determination is pending forensic toxicology and lab results, authorities report.
