Third Annual Women’s Expo Set for March 16 at Library

EVA KOR
ROSA GAETA CORNEJO
JANIS THORNTON

The third annual Women’s Expo is Saturday, March 16, 10 a.m.– 4 p.m. This is a free event and open to the public. Over 30 women-owned businesses will be present and have their products for sale. For a list of participating vendors, please visit myfcpl.org/womens-expo. Instead of paying a booth fee, each vendor donates an item to our raffle.  Raffle tickets will be available to purchase during the expo for $1 each.

We are excited to bring you three inspirational speakers at this year’s Women’s Expo. Local author Janis Thornton will kick off the event at 10 a.m. She will discuss her book Too Good a Girl: Remembering Olene Emberton and the Mystery of Her Death. Janis wrote this book about her Tipton High School classmate, Olene Emberton. Joining Janis is former Howard County Sheriff Marty Talbert, who reopened this case in the 1990s. Janis’s book, Too Good a Girl will be available for purchase.

Our second speaker is holocaust survivor, author, and forgiveness advocate Eva Kor. Eva will speak at 1 p.m. in the Skanta Theatre. Her book, Surviving the Angel of Death: The Story of a Mengele Twin in Auschwitz will be available to purchase for $12. Tickets for Eva’s presentation will be passed out at 12 p.m. on the day of the Expo. Each person will only receive one ticket, and tickets may not be reserved in advance. This presentation will be live-streamed throughout the library by WILO Radio. Eva will be available for photo opportunities after her presentation.   Ticket information can be found at myfcpl.org/womens-expo/

Entrepreneur Rosa Gaeta Cornejo will speak at 3 p.m. in the Skanta Theatre.  Her presentation will be given in Spanish and translated into English. Rosa came to the United States from Mexico as an adult.  She learned English and opened a small bakery as a single mother. She is now the owner and operator of four popular bakeries in Indiana by the name of Mamá Inés Mexican Bakery.

Throughout the month of March, Becky Heimann and Rosa Maria Dies will have artwork on display in the Anna & Harlan Hubbard Gallery. Becky is a printmaker from Indianapolis. She is a lover of nature, and her artwork often reflects this. Rosa Maria is a printmaker and also creates mixed media pieces. Most of her work depicts women, but she also paints nature, still lifes, and abstracts. Both artists have participated in our Annual November Art Show, and have pieces in the library’s permanent art collection. Becky and Rosa Maria will be present at the Expo to answer questions and talk about their artwork.
