Gene E. Robbins, 86 of Zionsville, Ind., died on June 10, 2023 at I.U. Health West Hospital, Avon, Indiana. He was born November 26, 1936 in Seymour, Ind. to the late Elmer and Bertha (Garriott) Robbins. He married Linda L. Detraz on September 3, 1960 and she preceded him in death on November 23, 2022 after 62 years of marriage.
Gene graduated from Bro
wnstown High School in 1954 and received a B.S. in Business degree, with distinction, from Indiana University in 1958, majoring in accounting. He received a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from Indiana University School of Law in 1964.
He was an accountant with Cummins Engine Co., Inc. in Columbus, Ind from June 1958 until September 1961, with a leave of absence for military service from April 1959 to April 1961. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in the Finance Corps and attained the rank of First Lieutenant. He practiced law for 56 years in Frankfort, Ind., through the end of June, 2020, lastly under the firm name of Morrison & Robbins. He was a member of the American Bar, Indiana State Bar and Clinton County Bar Associations.
Gene held numerous positions on various boards, commissions and committees of the local St. Matthew United Methodist Church and the Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church. He was on the board of Wesley Manor in Frankfort and served at President (chairman) for three years. He served on the board of directors of the Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, chairman for four years, and its successors, including Indiana University Health, retiring in June, 2015. He also served on the board of Bedford Regional Medical Center which became part of I.U. Health. He served several years on the board of the Clinton County Community Foundation.
Gene was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry and is survived by Jerry’s four sons, Gregory, Jeffrey, Mark and Michael and by several great-nieces and great-nephews and their families.
Memorial Service:
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on June 23, 2023 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main St., Frankfort. Friends may gather beginning at 1 until time of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Matthew United Methodist or a fund of the donor’s choice through the Clinton County Community Foundation.
