Indiana House Republicans are seeking student interns for the 2026 legislative session, according to Boone County legislators.

These paid, full-time internships are open to college students, recent graduates and students in graduate and law school. State Rep. Becky Cash (R-Zionsville) said the internship is an opportunity to gain practical knowledge of state government through active participation in the legislative process.

“Work-based learning can be a cornerstone in young Hoosiers’ education,” Cash said. “By interning at the Statehouse, students get a hands-on learning experience that can make all the difference on a resume and in their future career.”

State Rep. Hunter Smith (R-Zionsville) said interns will work in the Statehouse in downtown Indianapolis full time Monday through Friday during the legislative session, which starts in January and concludes in March.

“Each day there is something new at the Statehouse as interns work hand-in-hand with legislators and staff during session,” Smith said. “Hoosier students can set themselves up for success with a House internship and gain invaluable, real-world skills.”

State Rep. Jeff Thompson (R-Lizton) said positions are available in legislative operations, policy and communications.

“Having professional experience through opportunities like internships is crucial for students when seeking employment after graduating,” Thompson said. “This program is a great resume booster and a way to network with lawmakers and industry leaders from across the state.”

State Rep. Mark Genda (R-Frankfort) said interns will be paired with a staff member to work directly with an assigned group of state representatives. During this spring semester internship, students will have opportunities to interact with state legislators, state agencies and private sector organizations, as well as participate in a weekly speaker series featuring Indiana civic leaders.

“The experience students earn through an internship at the Statehouse is unlike any other,” Genda said. “From sitting in on committee meetings to assisting constituents and providing session updates for the public, students are immersed in the legislative process.”
