Firefighters from Frankfort, Rossville and Mulberry spent most of Monday night at a fire at the Clinton County landfill that began around 9:30 p..m.
According to Frankfort Fire Chief John Kirby, the fire is on the west side of the landfill covering an area approximately 40 x 40 yards. Kirby said they had the blaze quickly under control but stayed until 1:30 a.m. to ensure no hot-spots flared back up.
“As of about 11 p.m., we’ve used approximately 6,000 gallons of water”, Kirby said.
Every Frankfort fire crew was on the scene with crews from Rossville and Mulberry called in to provide additional manpower and tanker assistance, with a total of 25 firefighters working the fire.
Ten off-duty Frankfort firefighters were called in to cover headquarters tonight.
